SINGAPORE – Singapore Post branches provided the stage for much drama and excitement in 2023 as music fans camped there for one or several nights to buy tickets to high-profile concerts by global stars such as American singer Taylor Swift and British band Coldplay.
However, customers will no longer be able to purchase concert tickets from Ticketmaster at post offices, a SingPost spokesperson told The Straits Times, adding that the company is currently not a distribution channel for event tickets.
The spokesman refused to answer questions about “trade agreements or decisions”.
In response to ST queries, a spokeswoman for Ticketmaster – the company that sells tickets to concerts by Swift and Coldplay, among others – said the company would continue to offer ticket purchasing options through its online platform and explore new ways to “improve”. the ticket experience” for customers.
Many local music fans queued day and night to buy tickets for these concerts at SingPost outlets across the island in June and July 2023.Although they were able to buy tickets online on the Ticketmaster platform, they used SingPost outlets to have a better chance as they reportedly had problems with the website.
Coldplay fan Jamie Foo told ST in June 2023 that she stopped buying tickets online after being kicked out twice in advance sales and decided to try her luck by queuing in person.
After waiting in line for three hours at SingPost’s Ang Mo Kio branch, Ms Foo got four tickets.
The 31-year-old senior manager of an American multinational said at the time that she felt “mostly relieved” and that she realized that day that the manual option still worked better.
Some hardcore Taylor Swift fans started lining up at SingPost outlets two days in advance to grab tickets during the July 2023 general sale after failing to do so in the advance sale.
